Yorke Peninsula revisited

Last week Ken and I travelled around Yorke Peninsula to spread the word about the website. Three years ago, we were there in the initial stages of locating and photographing Institutes. This time we showed the website to Information Centre volunteers at Ardrossan, Stansbury, Edithburgh, and Yorketown and left our new institutessa.com calling card at nine other Institute buildings.

A group of walkers visiting the museum at Port Victoria were a captive audience to hear about SA institutes. One member of the group had been part of Hindmarsh Institute Library’s transition to a Council library, and another had danced and partied at the Crystal Brook Institute. We also spread the news to the quilters we met at the Wallaroo Mines Institute and discovered that the 1911 SLSA photo we used to be not of that Institute. We are now on the hunt for a building with the photo’s distinctive window.
