Powerful memories

The 1950s were a time for Debutante Balls, including Mock and Miniature Deb Balls. Both Pat Scholefield (nee Cundy) and Terry O’Dea have fond memories, as well as photos, of their chance to shine in the Williamstown and the Wasleys Institutes.

Les Johnson‘s first strong memory of Berri Institute was when he was awarded a year’s subscription to the local library. It was unexpected and began a long association with the Berri Institute. For others, strong memories of the local Institute had more to do with performing. Amateur Hours and end-of-year School Concerts at Wasleys saw one or two of Deirdre Travers‘ family (the O’Deas) taking the limelight, while Pat’s ballet class performances provided another chance for her to take to the stage in the Williamstown Institute.
